Although tummy tucks and breast lifts create incredible improvement in a patients dress size, they also create a large change to a patient’s bank account and require six weeks of down time. For subtle but significant improvement in the lines around the eyes and forehead, Botox injections are rapidly growing in popularity and require ten minutes in an office chair with no down time.
Botulinum toxin type A is a neuromodulator. It relaxes the pull of muscles which results in less folding of the skin. Softer lines in the upper face decrease the appearance of aging.
Injections are done just under the skin with very small needles and tiny amounts of Botox. Results are obvious by 7-10 days and results last 3-6 months on average.
Approved by the FDA in 1991 Botox has many medical uses including the prevention of migraine headaches, temporomandibular joint pain, arm pit sweating and chronic neck and back pain.

No longer used only to reverse the signs of aging, Botox is now seen as a method of prevention. Many 20 and 30 year olds are using Botox to avoid the formation of harsh lines seen in their parents or grandparents.
Very few contraindications exist for the use of Botox however patients should consult with a knowledgeable provider before considering this procedure.
